CRTC funding Telus, Bell, others to help improve cell service in three provinces

This is part of the Commission's Broadband Fund

The CRTC is improving cell service along 100km of roads in Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, and Ontario. It is providing $17 million to Bell, Tbaytel, Telus, and Sogetel Mobilité to build new cell towers and boost cellphone coverage on eight major roads.

Here’s the breakdown of where the funds are going:

  • The Commission approved Bell’s funding application up to $1,048,999 to serve 15km of Route 330 in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • TBayTel will get up to $5,156,270 to upgrade five cellular sites to serve 39km of Highway 527 in northwestern Ontario.
  • Telus will get up to $7,479,321 building cellular towers and covering 27km of highways in Quebec.
  • Sogetel Mobilité will receive up to $3,594,659 to build cellular towers along routes 161 and 212 in southeastern Quebec.

This money comes from the CRTC Broadband Fund helping connect rural, remote and Indigenous communities in Canada.
