Japanese electronics manufacturer Sony has added Google Assistant to its 4K HDR televisions that are powered by Android TV.
Google’s virtual assistant is available on all of Sony’s 2017 Android TV models and select 2016 sets as well.
While Google Assistant on Sony’s TV is not always listening like on smartphones, the voice-activated assistant does allow users to control their TVs by pressing the microphone button on the television’s remote. Thanks to this new functionality, users can control their TV and smart home products without having to move from their couch.
According to Sony the 2016 editions of the ‘XBR – Z9D,’ ‘XBR -X800D,’ ‘XBR – X750/X700D ‘and all of Sony’s 2017 Android TVs will feature Google Assistant after downloading the software update.
Nvidia’s Shield TV set-top box was updated with Google Assistant support back in September. When it comes to Sony TVs, however, Google Assistant is only available in English currently.
