SaskTel has announced the expansion of LTE to 146 towers in rural communities and areas, bumping its LTE coverage to 92 percent of the province. The carrier says it expects full coverage will be complete within the next month and notes that the southwestern and southern parts of the province are already entirely complete.
“SaskTel is committed to investing in infrastructure that will position the company to lay the groundwork for future network enhancements, such as the introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE),” said Ron Styles, SaskTel president and CEO in a press statement.
The minister responsible for SaskTel, Dustin Duncan, added: “Our government understands the unique challenges Saskatchewan’s rural areas face and enhanced cellular service will provide rural customers with a valuable tool for continued success in today’s world of commerce.”
The expansion of LTE is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over $300 million CAD in Saskatchewan in 2016 and 2017 and $1.4 billion from 2016 to 2021.
