SaskTel has announced that it has expanded LTE coverage to more than 50 towers throughout southwestern Saskatchewan.
The expansion is part of the carrier’s commitment to invest $331 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2016/17. One of the carrier’s stated objectives with that investment is to bring LTE to 99 percent of the Saskatchewan population by April 2017.
“This expansion illustrates our commitment to delivering world class communication and entertainment services to our customers,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel president and CEO in a press statement.
“As the leading Saskatchewan-based communications provider, we will continue to make important investments in our networks that will benefit all parts of the province.”
The carrier noted that its LTE deployment, which promises speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G, lays the groundwork for future enhancements like Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
