Canadians will have to wait to check out Instagram’s new video-focused Explore look

Following the introduction of 60-second long videos, Instagram has added video channels to the Explore section of its app. The revised section is not yet available in Canada, but should be out in the next couple of weeks.

The company announced it started rolling out the feature in a blog post published yesterday. “To start, these updates to Explore will only be available in the United States. We’re working to bring this to the rest of the world soon,” said Instagram.

Explore’s new look begins with a channel titled “Videos You Might Like”. Throughout the grid of pictures there are segments of featured videos on various themes — the examples in the post show “Meet the New Comedy Stars” and “Experience Coachella 2016.”

Instagram notes the addition of video channels to the Explore feed does not mean a fundamental change in the way this feature works. Users will still be able to adjust their preferences by marking any unwanted content with the “See Fewer Posts Like This” option.

Instagram’s parent company Facebook put a strong emphasis on video, particularly live video, at the recent F8 developer conference.
