The BlackBerry Priv is expected to be available next month and will be the company’s first Android-powered smartphone. A new set of images has surfaced that gives a bit more insight into what BlackBerry has put under the hood of the Priv, specifically the chipset and what the company is calling Safeguard.
First, courtesy of N4BB, are pictures of the Priv from several new angles that show the front and back of the device. Present is the dual-curved display and 18MP Schneider Kreuznach rear camera, which is now confirmed to be capable of capturing 4K videos. In addition, the AnTuTu Benchmark screenshot gives further confirmation that BlackBerry is using the Snapdragon 808 processor with Adreno 418 GPU, the same chip found in the LG G4 and recently-announced Lumia 950.
BlackBerry intends to differentiate the Priv with the company’s security features. BlackBerry’s Eric Lai recently said that “because it’s powered by Android, Priv will also deliver the largest choice in apps and the most secure experience possible to the widest audience. Priv users will enjoy choice, innovation, security, privacy AND productivity. In other words, no compromises.”
The above photo shows BlackBerry Safeguard, an app that allow the user to see the Priv’s security status, such as app setting, developer options, screen lock, trusted websites, and device data encryption. BlackBerry also provides the health of your Priv by way of a fancy looking gauge and rating.
The Priv also comes with 3GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and is expected to run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop when it launches later this year.
