Samsung recaptures smartphone shipment title from Apple in Q1: Strategy Analytics

Apple sold a whopping 61.2 million iPhones in its most recent quarter, but it wasn’t strong enough to lead the world in smartphone shipments. According to a report from Strategy Analytics, the total number of smartphones shipped reached 345 million units, which is up 21% from a year ago (285 million units).

While Samsung’s total shipments slowed slightly, the research firm counted 83.2 million smartphones from the Korean company, capturing 24% market share in Q1 2015, down from 31% during the same period a year ago. Making up the difference was Apple at 18% share, which is an increase of 3% from Q1 2014, building on the success of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The company noted that “consumers upgrade to larger-screen phablets for enhanced data experiences.”

Third spot was Lenovo-Motorola with 18.8 million units and 5.4% market share, followed by Huawei with 17.7 million smartphone shipments and 5% market share.
