Microsoft launched the Surface Pro 3 in Canada in June, and the device was featured prominently in Intel’s back-to-school lineup of convertible devices. Now, the company is hoping to make the Surface Pro 3 a bit more appealing to the educational segment with a nice discount for schools.
Microsoft today announced the Surface for Education Program, which will see schools in Canada get a 10% discount on the Surface Pro 3 and the Type Cover keyboard via three separate bundles. Qualifying educational institutions can now get a Surface Pro 3 and Type Cover combo from $839 for the Core i3 model with 64 GB of storage. The 128 GB Core i5 model is now priced at $1019, down from $1129, while the 256 GB Core i5 is now $1289 instead of $1429.
Educational institutions can get the above pricing with the purchase of five or more Surface Pro 3s (Microsoft classes an educational institution as “an accredited institute organized and operated exclusively for the purpose of teaching its enrolled students”).
We’ve contacted Microsoft for confirmation on Canadian pricing because although the blog post mentions Canada’s inclusion in this program, it appears on Microsoft’s US site, so the prices above are presumably in US dollars.
