BlackBerry announced today that they’ll be releasing a “special release of BBM for Android smartphones running Gingerbread.” According to the InsideBlackBerry blog, BBM is now in beta and “will soon also be available on Android Devices running Gingerbread(v2.3.3+).” BlackBerry says the official release to this OS will happen sometime in February.
Google recently revealed that Gingerbread is currently powering 21.2% of the Android devices that visit Google Play. So making BBM available to those users could certainly bump up their downloads.
