Most everyone has encountered a moment where they need to quickly send an address or phone number from their desktop to their phone and resort to email in lieu of a better option. A new service launching today offers a simpler solution to Mac and iOS users that doesn’t involve email or iMessage clutter.
Scribe is a pair of apps, one for your Mac, the other for your iOS device, that communicate over Bluetooth LE to quickly send snippets of text and images with a simple cmd-shift-x. Bluetooth LE is a low power solution and requires no Internet connection for either device to work, but it can only send small file sizes, making it perfect for an address, phone number, or link. Scribe is smart enough to sort and format the different text types accordingly, prompting you to start a call or open Safari as needed.
The iPhone companion app is ‘free’, but the Mac version of Scribe costs $2.99, which might deter some giving it a go. If you are interested, make sure to check Scribe’s device compatibility list before dropping any coin. Apple products made in 2012 or later are for the most part on the list, but Bluetooth LE support in 2011 products is a bit spotty.
