When we covered Xbox Music’s iOS launch back in September, we noted that a lack of offline playback would hamper Microsoft’s offering from competing with the glut of streaming services available in Canada: Rdio, Slacker, Deezer, etc. Today’s update removes the black mark by allowing users to cache playlists for offline listening with a quick thumb swipe.
With offline playback and the features Microsoft added in October (personalized recommendations, ability to build stations for your favourite artists), Xbox Music is rounding out into a competent alternative to the major music offerings, especially if you happened to land an Xbox One over the holidays. Microsoft offers a free 30-day trial, so now might be the time to give it a shot.
