BlackBerry’s job cuts are quickening, which is incredibly unfortunate.
According to a report by the CBC which has been confirmed by BlackBerry, yet another 300 employees have been shown the door.
“This week’s reduction includes approximately 300 in Waterloo.”
BlackBerry spokesperson Rebecca Freiburger stated, “As previously mentioned, we are in a period of transition and we must focus on enhancing our financial results to be in a better position to compete in this current mobile environment. As such, BlackBerry has implemented an ongoing workforce reduction. This week’s reduction includes approximately 300 in Waterloo.” There is no breakdown of which department these employees worked.
BlackBerry recently announced plans to cut 4,500 jobs around the world, which is about 40% of its workforce, and so far approximately 1,000 have been from Canada. The job cuts will be completed “by the end of the first quarter of Fiscal 2015,” according to a recent quarterly earnings report.
