After five months on the market, the Nexus 10 tablet is finally getting its first official accessory. Google has launched a snap-on cover for the high-resolution slate in both dark grey and scarlet, which looks less orange in person than in photos.
Unlike an iPad Smart Cover which uses magnets to attach to the device, this one replaces a small detachable plastic latch on the back, hooking into the supplied grooves for maximum adhesion. The cover itself is not magnetized, so it’s prone to flopping around placed under the servitude of gravity, but it does a decent job of protecting the 2560×1600 pixel screen nonetheless. Magnets are used, however, to turn off and on the screen automatically; like the iPad’s Smart Cover, the Nexus 10 goes to sleep when covered.
The cases are available for $29.99 each and ship within 3-5 business days.
