Bell announced their Q1 2011 results this morning and wireless revenues increased by a stunning 9.2% to $1,251 million. Data revenue grew 38% and blended ARPU (Average Rate Per User) increased by $1.61 to $51.68 mainly due to the adoption of smartphones (now makes up 34% of Bell’s postpaid customers). 80,648 net post-paid customers were added in the quarter (Rogers had 45,000 and TELUS had 52,000 net post-paid customer in Q1). As for PrePaid, Bell stated in the release that “With our focus on higher value postpaid customer acquisition and aggressive acquisition offers from new entrants, prepaid gross activations decreased by 24.5% to 124,142”. The Bell wireless subscriber base is now 7,247,340.
