Must be nice to be Finance Minister Dwight Duncan. The comforts of a high profile political job and somehow he’s already managed to get himself a BlackBerry PlayBook before the rest of the world. The official release of RIM’s new tablet is on April 19th but Duncan showed up at the Ontario budget with his and wanted to read his entire speech from the PlayBook, but the Opposition was opposed to the idea. The PlayBook also made the cover of the paper version of the budget.
A question was asked by a reporter if Duncan was getting a product placement fee by RIM in which Mr. Duncan stated “I think that we should be very proud of Ontario businesses that innovate”. But did announce that his budget included a total sum of $50 million over 10-year to the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (a research institution that was founded by RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis).
