Telus customers in B.C. and Alberta can now access wireless high speed Internet anywhere from their cellphone. This is mainly due to an commitment of $100 million since 2005 to improve the area. High speed offers users typical download speeds of approximately 450 to 800 kilobits per second to a maximum possible speed of 3.1 megabits per second.
“Western Canadians can now enjoy access to wireless broadband Internet pretty much anywhere they happen to be, whether downtown Vancouver, in Nakusp, Grande Prairie or Drumheller,” said Rizwan Jamal, senior vice-president of TELUS Consumer Solutions. “For busy people on the go that means being able to connect with others, wherever and however they choose to communicate – email, instant-messaging, texting, or even via social networking such as Facebook. It also means they can unleash the power of the internet and conduct online searches, access navigation tools, or even access their work files from outside the office.”
Operating over TELUS’ cellular network, wireless high speed offers users typical download speeds of approximately 450 to 800 kilobits per second to a maximum possible speed of 3.1 megabits per second. The service also offers enhanced upload speeds of approximately 300 to 400 kilobits per second with a maximum possible upload speed of 1.8 megabits per second.
Wireless high speed is based on the EVDO Rev A standard. TELUS launched the first generation of wireless high speed service in late 2005.
