As October bears down on the Northern Hemisphere with increasingly frigid temperatures, Google once again prepares to release a Nexus device.
The rumoured Nexus 5, of which we’ve seen every type of leak ranging from official videos to leaked bar photos to an LG service manual, will likely be released before the end of the month, and we’ve got screenshots of the system build to verify its specs.
A 5-inch 1080p IPS display will sit atop a 2.26Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16-32GB internal storage, an 8MP camera with OIS, LTE connectivity and, of course, Android 4.4 KitKat.
What’s most interesting about the new rumours today is the potential for Google to release two separate battery size SKUs depending on the amount of internal storage. According to an anonymous source, the 16GB Nexus 5, which will retail for $299 USD, will come with a 2300mAh battery, while the 32GB model, which will cost $399, will be equipped with a 3000mAh cell. That doesn’t sound likely, but stranger things have happened, and it could account for the higher cost. Whether the model with the 3000mAh battery will be thicker or taller remains to be seen, but it would be an interesting way for Google to differentiate its Nexus device based on more than just storage size.
Take it all with a grain of salt and then smother it in more salt, but it all sounds pretty intriguing.
