Uber may only operate in one Canadian city, Toronto, but it’s changing the way people use cabs. While the traditional taxi companies may balk at the idea — defensively, no doubt, as along with Hailo the startup is disrupting the industry — using Uber to pay a fare is easy, convenient and actually fun.
Today’s update for Android changes the game for Uber users again, as Hailo’s main advantage, an attractive app, has been eliminated. With version 2.0, Uber for Android is clean, slick and extremely usable. It incorporates Google’s new Maps API, showing detailed views of where you are and real-time previews of where your potential cabs, black cars and SUVs are.
Along with a new design, there are some slick animations, too — some of the best on the platform. It’s clear a lot of work went into making Uber not only easily accessible but fun to use.
If you’re in Toronto, and want to give it a try, it’s easy to find a $10 off promotional coupon if you know where to look.
