Huawei high-end ‘Diamond’ series smartphones to be announced next month, report says

At CES 2012 Huawei introduced the Ascend P1 S, a device that was dubbed the world’s thinnest smartphone at 6.68mm (picture above). In Canada, Huawei devices have usually ended up going to WIND Mobile or Mobilicity – unfortunately there is no confirmed availability of the P1 S, only that it’s expected to hit North America sometime in Q2. Other specs have this with a 4.3-inch display (resolution of 960×540) and a 1.5 GHz dual core processor.

However, as much as this sounds tempting, Huawei has something better in the works. A few weeks ago invitations went out to a media event on February 26th that will showcase the “smartest, fastest and most high-performing smartphone yet”… apparently these upcoming smartphones will fall under a “Diamond” series name. According to a report from TWICE, Huawei VP Michael Chuang said the high-end Diamond series of smartphones will take performance up a notch. It’ll be tough to be thinner than 6.68mm, but can be faster than a 1.5 GHz dual core processor – quad core?? Bottom line, Huawei seems to be getting serious about smartphones.
