U.S.-based e-commerce giant Amazon has announced that it will expand its Vancouver presence by launching a 416,000-square foot development centre in British Columbia’s largest city.

Amazon plans on expanding into the QuadReal The Post redevelopment — at 349 West Georgia Street — once the project opens in 2022.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of Amazon announcing plans to expand into a site on Dunsmuir Street in 2020.

According to an April 30th, 2018 media release, the company believes that its West Georgia Street offices will create 3,000 additional jobs in the city. The company believes that it will bring roughly 5,000 jobs to Vancouver across all of its planned developments.

“Our vibrant cities, which are home to some of the best talent in the world, are poised to attract premier investment that creates the jobs of tomorrow,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in the same April release. “Canadians share your passion for invention and your commitment to excellence – and that’s why we are excited to see Amazon grow here in Vancouver”

Amazon currently employs 1,000 people in Vancouver and approximately 6,000 people in Canada.

“Vancouver is home to an incredibly talented and diverse workforce, and these thousands of new employees will invent on behalf of our customers worldwide,” said Alexandre Gagnon, vice president of Amazon Canada and Mexico, in the same April release.
