Some iPhone X units suffer from crackling speakers at high volumes

iPhone X

Some iPhone X users are reporting issues with the smartphone’s speakers crackling at high volume levels, according to multiple posts on Reddit.

While not a particularly unusual issue in the smartphone space, reports have emerged on Reddit, MacRumors and Twitter about the issue. The problem, however, doesn’t seem to be affecting all iPhone Xs.

Apple support representatives are apparently aware of the issues and are collecting diagnostic info, according to Engadget.

I love everything about the iPhone X.. EXCEPT the Horrendous sound Quality/Speaker issues – Crackling/Sound with WAY too much Treble. from apple

It’s unclear if the issue is software or hardware-related, but this problem comes just weeks after Apple fixed a flaw where the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus’s speaker crackled during some phone calls. This issue was eventually fixed via a software update that released a few weeks later.

Other iPhone X issues MobileSyrup reported last week include a strange blue line appearing on some owner’s displays, as well as the screen becoming unresponsive under cold weather conditions.

It’s important to point out that it’s not unusual for a flagship smartphone to experience minor technical issues — just take a look at the Pixel 2 XL — though it looks like the iPhone X may be encountering more issues than is typical for an iPhone release.
