Streaming platform users will have to wait to listen to Taylor Swift’s new album

Taylor Swift burning money

Taylor Swift fans, both in Canada and the rest of the world, will have to wait to stream the pop star’s upcoming new album, Reputation, on services like Spotify, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Citing “people familiar with the matter,” the publication reports fans of the former country music star will have to wait at least a week before they’ll be able to stream the new album on their streaming platform of choice. Swift’s management team and music streaming platform holders like Apple and Spotify are reportedly “still negotiating” specifics.

As such, anyone that wants to check out Reputation will need to either wait for the album to release on streaming platforms or buy it on a platform like iTunes.

This development is just the latest chapter in Swift’s ongoing convoluted saga with streaming platforms. In 2016, Swift published an open letter on Tumblr in which she criticized Apple for its then policy of not paying artist royalties for any songs Apple Music users listened to during their free trial of the service.

Apple quickly backtracked on its position after the letter was widely shared. That same year, Swift also re-uploaded her back catalogue to Spotify after a three year absence.
