Apple’s GarageBand software on iOS is receiving a major update.
GarageBand 2.3 — available on iPhone and iPad as of November 1st, 2017 — brings a series of updates to the audio workstation app, including a new ‘Sound Library,’ as well as a ‘Beat Sequencer.’The Sound Library allows users to “browse and download free new sound packs directly in GarageBand.”
Each sound pack features a combination of different touch instruments as well as ‘Apple-designed sounds”‘and instrument presets. GarageBand will also alert users when new instrument packs are available.
The Beat Sequencer allows musicians to “choose drum sounds from a collection of classic and modern electronic drum kits, then easily build up a looping beat in seconds by tapping a combination of steps on each track.”
There are 12 Apple-designed drumkits to choose from, “each with their own unique sound and 25 beat patterns,” according to a November 1st, 2017 media release.
As for the additional instruments, Apple has introduced a series of Asian instruments, including a Japanese Koto (shown below) and a Chinese Guzheng.
