Popular password management app Dashlane has released the latest generation of its platform, Dashlane 5, delivering several notable new features along with a brand redesign.
Perhaps most significantly, Dashlane 5 brings with it a new web extension that works directly in browsers, so that users no longer need a separate application to access the service. This means Dashlane is available to Linux users, on both Chrome and Firefox, and to Chromebook and Microsoft Edge for the first time.
Further adding to the enhanced accessibility of Dashlane 5, web app users can now add, edit and remove passwords and notes, as well as add credit cards, all within the web app. Users can also make a Dashlane account and use the web app as a secure repository without any extension installed.
Additionally, and just in time for the launch of the iPhone X, Dashlane 5 supports using Apple’s Face ID to authenticate logins. For Android users, the platform highlights the fact that Android 8.0 Oreo allows for automatic in-app logins.
For added security, Dashlane 5 also delivers a new two-step authentication feature that lets users login to accounts where two-step authentication is enabled by generating, storing and displaying one-time passcodes inside the platform. It also supports Intel’s Software Guard Extensions and built-in Universal 2nd Factor.
The platform also notes that it has improved its autofill capabilities, noting that users should now only need to fill in information on an unrecognized site once, and from then on Dashlane will fill it automatically.
On the aesthetic side of things, the service now looks different in a number of ways, including a new logo that features the Dashlane impala inside a shield, and the inclusion of app icons.
Dashlane stated in its release that since the launch of Dashlane 4 in 2015, it added 5 million users, amounting to 9 million users in total.
