Support for self-dismissing notifications announced for Android O

Android self dismissing notifications

Google has announced self-dismissing notification support for Android O, according to PhoneArena.

Self-dismissing notifications will allow messages to disappear from the notification shade after a set period of time. Currently this is a feature for developers to be aware of while creating new apps for the upcoming version of Google’s Android operating system.

This update is useful for notifications that are very time orientated. For example, certain notifications for games or shopping apps will let you know of sales that are only available for the next two hours.

Self-dismissing notifications are just one of the many interesting features coming to Android O. Other features such as specific channels that allow you to control which notifications you want from specific apps, custom lock screen shortcuts and picture-in-picture, for when you want to watch a movie in the corner of your screen while you read a text.

The developer preview, released less than a month ago, will likely be vastly different from the final version of Android O when it releases later this year.
