Wind delays Victoria launch to at least April

WIND Mobile currently operates in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Vancouver. The Times Colonist is reporting that Wind is delaying their Victoria launch until March or April of next year due to not having enough sites to put their cell towers in.

WIND chairman Tony Lacavera stated “Right now, we’re working hard on getting sufficient sites, locations to put up sufficient towers to have enough coverage. What we can’t do is launch with big gaps in the coverage. We can’t afford to have calls dropped.  It comes down to a few sites that are tricky to get… we have a lot but not enough to launch. We won’t do it until we are comfortable the network is solid.”

In addition, the anticipated announcement of Wind’s subscriber numbers will be released on August 12th, rumours are that they’re above the 100,000 level.
