Sony’s Compact series is back, but not coming to Canada

Xperia X Compact family

While most smartphone manufacturers have all but abandoned the small form smartphone, Sony has just released the latest iteration of its fan favourite Compact series smartphone, the Xperia X Compact.

Essentially a smaller version of the Xperia X, the Xperia X Compact features a Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a 720p screen and USB-C port.

The diminutive 129 x 65 x 9.5mm smartphone comes with 2,700 mAh battery.

Like the just announced Xperia XZ, the Xperia X Compact features an impressive main camera. It has the same best-in-class 23-megapixel sensor with laser and Predictive Hybrid autofocus.

The Xperia X Compact will start shipping across the world in the next few weeks. It will be available in black, white and light blue.

Unfortunately, Canadian consumers may have to look elsewhere for a small phone. When asked whether the smartphone will make its way to Canada, a Sony spokesperson said, “at this time there are no plans for the Xperia XZ or Xperia X Compact to come to Canada. We will keep you updated on future announcements about the Xperia lineup.”

Bummer.
