Chrome for iOS beta gains quick searches in first beta update

Google Chrome for iOS is a great, fast browser for fans of Apple hardware who are invested in Google services. Last month, we reported on the beta program for Chrome on iOS, which added 3D Touch support, as well as some additional gesture support and bluetooth keyboard shortcuts.

This week, it appears a server-side change has turned on a new feature for beta testers, and it’s an interesting move. Now, when you select text in Chrome on iOS, you’ll be presented with a modal overlay at the bottom of the window with the Google logo (the OLD Google logo, mind you) and the selected text. This feature has been available in Chrome on Android for some time.

Tapping this overlay will launch a search for the selected text while keeping what you were doing unaffected. As well, a long press on the overlay will copy the text to the clipboard, in case you didn’t necessarily want to perform a search.

If you’re interested in trying out Google Chrome beta, you can check it out from an iOS device at this link.
