CyanogenMod users can now try out Android 5.1

Cyanogen Mod

With OnePlus One owners already enjoying their first taste of Android 5.1 with Cyanogen OS 12.1, those using the community-backed mod variant of Cyanogen can now join in the fun as well.

The CyanogenMod team today announced the release of version 12.1 of its popular custom take on Android.

This is an update users have been waiting for a while; not only does it bring their phones up to feature parity with Android 5.1, it shores up the operating system against Stagefright, the recently disclosed vulnerability that allows a malicious user to take over an Android phone using a long existing MMS bug.

Thankfully, the the Stagefright fix is not limited to those whose devices can run 12.1. The CyanogenMod team also released updates to CyanogenMod 11 and 12, which also include the aforementioned Stagefright fix.

There are a lot of different devices to cover with this update, so, as always, patience is a virtue while waiting for the build to be uploaded to the Cyanogen website.
