Doritos Canada wants you to ‘wipe’ your keyboard to win PC prizes

"Doritos crumbs make keyboards messy," the company admits in its new contest

Over the weekend, FedEx delivered perhaps one of the strangest mailers I’ve ever received.

I had been expecting something from Doritos Canada, but I wasn’t sure exactly what it would be. And when the package came in a laptop-sized box, I got even more curious. But after ripping it open, I was surprised to find an RGB keyboard. But not just any keyboard; no, this one was filled with Dorito chip crumbs. And beside the accessory was individual sized bag of Ultimate Garlic Parmesan Doritos.

Yes, it came like this.

“Doritos chips and gaming is one of the greatest gaming combos, ever. Unfortunately, Doritos crumbs make keyboards messy,” reads a message included with my package.

As it turns out, this is part of a campaign not only to promote the recently released flavour, but to also offer Canadians a chance to win various PC prizes, including a gaming laptop. Until April 16, you can visit a website via desktop or laptop where you’re instructed slide your hand back and forth across your keyboard in a “wiping” motion and then entering whatever gibberish you inadvertently typed. Doing so will give you a chance to win one of two gaming laptops valued at $2,500, as well as other prizes like keyboards, mice, headsets, monitors and, most commonly, a coupon for a free bag of the new Gar-Par Doritos.

Of course, your keyboard doesn’t have to actually be covered in Doritos crumbs or dust. Still, it’s hilarious that the keyboard I received was covered in actual Doritos debris. (And sure enough, it was indeed hard to wipe away, even after several tries.)

All in all, it’s a funny campaign. And best of all, it’s free to enter — no purchase necessary.
