OpenAI has finally launched ChatGPT Health, a new dedicated health portal for its AI chatbot.
According to the press release, the new feature allows the chatbot to analyze medical records alongside third-party health apps like MyFitnessPal, Function, and Apple Health, which can then be further analyzed to provide personalized advice.
Now, for those worried about privacy and security relating to sharing medical records with an AI chatbot, OpenAI has said that conversations in ChatGPT Health would be stored separately from other chats and would not be used to train AI tools.
Funny enough, OpenAI also mentioned that the new Health feature was designed only to support, not replace, proper medical care, and shall not be used for diagnosis or treatment. Still, there will probably be people who try to use this to replace seeing an actual doctor.
Interestingly, OpenAI said in its press release that over 230 million people globally ask ChatGPT health and wellness-related questions every week.
Currently, those interested can join a waitlist for early access to the new Health portal. OpenAI has said that users with the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans located outside of Europe, Switzerland, and the U.K. are eligible to use ChatGPT Health.
The tech giant has also said that the medical record integrations, along with some health apps, are U.S.-only, so Health’s usability may be limited in Canada for the time being.
ChatGPT Health will be available to all users on web and iOS within the coming weeks. No word on if it will come to Android.
