Telus-owned wireless provider Koodo reportedly notified some customers that their bills will increase in July.
According to posts on Reddit, some customers with a $34/50GB Koodo plan received notices on recent bills that the plan would increase by $7 to $41/mo starting in July. While price hikes like this are unfortunately common in Canada, $7 is a bit high — most increases are $5 or less. It’s not clear if the price hike is specific to customers on the $34/50GB plan or more widespread.
Update June 19, 2025 at 1:14 p.m. ET: In a statement to MobileSyrup, Koodo confirmed it was increasing prices for some customers with legacy plans:
“This month, some customers on select legacy bring-your-own-device (BYOD) plans will see a price increase between $3- $7 on their bill. Affected customers can take advantage of any of our in-market rate plans that best suit their needs and budget, including our Pick Your Perk plans which offer additional savings when customers enroll in auto-pay, all on Canada’s largest 4G LTE network.”
Notably, Koodo hasn’t offered a $34/50GB plan for a while. Looking back at our archives, Koodo offered the plan in early 2024 but removed it in April of that year. It briefly brought the plan back as an exclusive offer for existing customers in May, and later turned it into a prepaid plan. (Koodo’s $34 prepaid plan now includes 60GB, or 70GB if customers use automatic top-up.) During the 2024 Black Friday shopping season, Koodo offered a $34/60GB plan, but didn’t have that plan during Boxing Week.
Compared to Koodo’s current, in-market plans, the now $41/50GB plan isn’t great. It falls between Koodo’s $35/20GB and $45/60GB options (both prices include an autopay discount). However, it’s also worth noting that Koodo customers might have some offers available on their account that beat out the price hike.
Earlier this week, I wrote about a variety of deals Koodo was offering to existing customers. If you’re on the $34/50GB plan and facing a $7 price hike, it might be worth checking your account to see if there’s a better deal. One Reddit user noted they already did this and switched to a $29/mo plan through Koodo’s self-serve portal.
You could also try calling Koodo to complain, but in my experience, doing that isn’t worth the time or frustration. Instead, I’d advise customers to start looking at other providers — switching will send a clear message to Koodo and likely net you a better deal.
Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile (also owned by Telus) both have options worth considering, like a $36/60GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico plan. Public also has a $34/60GB Canada-wide plan, so you could potentially get more data for the same amount you’re paying now, rather than suffering a price increase from Koodo.
