At long last, Paramount has released the first trailer for the highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
In it, we get our first full look at Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by none other than Toronto’s Keanu Reeves. The trailer teases a tragic origin story for the fan-favourite Sega video game character, who comes into conflict with Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey). To stand a chance against Shadow, Sonic and friends must team up with the evil Dr. Robotnik (Newmarket, Ontario’s Jim Carrey). Carrey also plays Robotnik’s dad, Gerald.
All in all, it looks like another fun ride that lovingly draws from Sonic Adventure 2. We’ve come a long way from the controversial “ugly Sonic” design that was extensively reworked for the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 races into theatres on December 20th.
