At last year’s Mobile World Congress, the closest attendees could get to Google’s Project Ara was a glass case filled with prototype parts. This year, things will be a little different.
Project Ara has come a long way in the last 12 months, and it sounds like Google will have some working parts on hand at MWC this year. CNET reports that Miami-based Yezz will be at MWC with some of the first manufactured Project Ara modules. Yezz CEO Luis Sosa said that Google approached his company to produce parts for the phone and Sosa has said they’ve already made about 100 prototypes.
These will be on show during MWC and, though it’s not explicitly stated that they’ll be operational, the Yezz portal for Project Ara parts currently features a countdown timer to MWC, so it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing 3D printed dummy parts.
