Holiday shopping is very much alive in Canada, and with only a few days remaining on the calendar, Google has revealed a new set of statistics about retail shopping trends.
Google commissioned Ipsos Reid to get a deeper understanding of how Canadians plan to shop this holiday season. The survey included 1,054 people and was conducted between September 10 and 17th.
This year, 59% of Canadians plan to use their smartphone for holiday browsing, which is up from 50% from last year. This could be just browsing for the latest deals, or showrooming for better prices while in-store. In addition, 34% of Canadians will research and buy online, but 21% will actually research online, then visit a store to physically see the product, then later buy online.
Finally, the survey revealed that 56% of Canadians who used their smartphone for holiday research bought products they searched the very same day, indicating that increased use of a mobile device actually drives e-commerce sales.
