At IFA 2013, Lenovo debuted the Vibe X. A couple of months later, we were treated to the Vibe Z. Now, despite the company’s pending acquisition of Motorola, Lenovo is giving us sequels to both devices.
Like last year’s Vibe X, the Vibe X2 is based on a MediaTek chip. This time its the octa-coe MediaTek MT6595 and comes equipped with 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, and a 1920 x 1080 pixel 5-inch display. It runs on Android 4.4 and packs a 13MP camera in the back with a 5MP camera up front. Lenovo is promising 19 hours on 3G with the 2300 mAh battery, though the device is 4G LTE capable.
The Vibe X2 features a multi-layered design with three different colours layered on top of each other around the edge of the phone. It’s also available in multiple difference (white, red, gold and dark grey) so users can choose the phone that best suits their personality. Above you see the vibrant dark grey, which Lenovo obviously felt best showed off the phone’s unique design as it was the only image of the Vibe X2 included in the press kit.
The Vibe Z2 joins the newly announced HTC Desire 820 in the 64-bit smartphone space. Last year’s Vibe Z ran on the Snapdragon 800, but the Vibe Z2 is based on the 64-bit Snapdragon 410 MSM8916, which was announced last December. It’s got a 5.5-inch 720p display, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 13MP camera, an 8MP camera up front that Lenovo says ‘claims the selfie crown,’ and a 3000 mAh battery. The Lenovo isn’t really focusing much on the design of this device, the Lenovo Vibe Z2 looks equally as beautiful as the Vibe X2.
It’s unlikely either of these devices will ever make it to Canada, but they might be the last phones Lenovo produces before it hands smartphone production off to Motorola. Motorola’s devices already have a very distinct aesthetic, which is quite different to current Lenovo handsets. It’ll be interesting to see if Motorola’s future phones take on a more premium look once Lenovo takes off.
