Despite a freemium pricing model that left some skeptical after launch, Office for iPad has been a relative success for Microsoft, with the company seeing 12 million downloads of the app suite in the first week of availability. Since then, Microsoft has been steadily improving upon an impressive initial offering, including the addition of a highly requested printing update. This week, the company is back with several significant feature improvements, including three of the most requested by Office users.
Firstly, export to PDF support has been added to all Office apps, and does not require an Office 365 subscription. Office for iPad also now supports third-party fonts, including AnyFont, and comes with improved image editing options for a quick crop or resize.
The new Office for iPad also comes with app-specific improvements. PowerPoint, for example, now includes an incredibly useful Presenter view and hyperlink editing, while Excel comes with new keyboard shortcuts and PivotTables support, among other features.
Office for iPad is available today as a free download from the App Store. Office 365 subscribers get access to all Office for iPad features at no additional cost.
