Sonos has unveiled new iOS and Android controller apps that can be used with their excellent wireless speaker series. The company has taken flack in recent months for offering mobile apps that, despite a wealth of functionality, were seen as antiquated and relatively unattractive.
The new apps will feature a brand new interface that resembles popular streaming music services like Rdio and Deezer, with flat iconography and a swipe-based navigation system. The biggest new feature is something called Universal Search, which lets users search for music by track, artist, playlist or genre from a variety of services and locally-stored media.
Only the Android app is available today, and even that is only as a beta version; the full apps will launch “this spring” on both platforms, likely on the same day.
