A heads up to any comic fans out there: Marvel is giving away 700 of its #1 issues spanning the company’s extensive history until tomorrow (Tuesday, March 12) at 11pm. These will be available through the company’s new iOS and Android apps as part of its SXSW promotion. So if you’ve ever wanted to read Spider-Man, X-Men or Avengers, now is your chance.
Update: David Steinberger, CEO of comiXology, the company that powers the digital portion of Marvel comics, confirmed that the Marvel promo has been paused. The reason given is that they were “overwhelmed by the immense response.” All day their system crashed and people couldn’t take advantage of the free offer. Steinberger noted that “you aren’t getting your comics when and where you want,” but gave hope that it’ll be back online soon and asked those who wanted to be kept informed to sign up for updates via their website.
