RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook becomes the “first tablet certified for deployment within U.S. federal government”

Well this makes sense and it’s a great boost for the image of RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook and any lingering security concerns. United States President Barack Obama uses a BlackBerry smartphone and now the tablet has become certified for the entire federal government to use. In a release RIM stated that the PlayBook is “the first tablet certified for deployment within U.S. federal government agencies. No other tablet on the market has gained FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is required under the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA).”

This will hopefully increase their sales way past the current 500,000 mark. In addition to this news, the PlayBook was awarded “Best in Show” and “Best of FOSE in the Handheld Devices category” this week in Washington DC at FOSE.
