Apple has notched up a couple more awards to their growing list. The iPhone 4 and the App Store have made it onto the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition and ousting both pure gaming consoles such as DS and the PSP. No word on how the Android Market, BlackBerry App World, Windows Marketplace, App Catalog or all the other App Store gaming sections fall into place, but we’ll probably see Apple find a way to bring this into their advertising some how. Guinness handed 5 distinct awards to Apple, but most notable are:
· Fastest-Selling Portable Gaming System (iPhone 4): estimated first day sales on June 24th, 2010 topped 1.5 million units beating the DS in 2004 with 500,000.
· Largest Downloadable Video Game Store (Apple App Store): As of September 2010, there are 37,362 games available for download via the Apple App Store. The closest competitor is Xbox Live Indie Arcade that has about 1,300 games.
