RIM bought Fredericton-based Chalk Media last year and they seem to be taking full advantage and moving forward now with growing the business. Chalk Media developed the Mobile Chalkboard, an application that pushes media content (audio and video) to BlackBerry devices.
The Liberal government has also stepped up and announced they will be providing $800,000 hire 50 employees. The money will be used for recruiting, training and buying new equipment for the new employees.
Dave Jaworsky, RIM’s senior director of corporate relations stated “We found the city to be very welcoming and the seeds are set for future growth for sure. Hearing this government is going to do things that in effect will be a net benefit to our top staff is very important to us.’’
Mike LeBlanc, director of development for Chalk Media “It is like opening the flood gates of the opportunities around the world for our products. We just have to manage that opportunity. When we were (just) Chalk, the company was not really well known… Now that we are recruiting under the RIM banner, it is lot easier.”
