It seems so long ago now that new wireless entrant Mobilicity (formally known as Dave Wireless) came out swinging with their go-to-market brand identity. Remember that day? It was two and a half months ago on February 2nd. Since that glorious day we’ve basically heard nothing from them about their anticipated planned springtime Toronto launch…Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa will follow.
President Dave Dobbin stated that “Mobilicity will kick the value equation up a notch this spring. If you live and work in one of our cities and you’re looking for the best wireless deal around, you’re going to love Mobilicity”.
When Mobilicity launches their wireless service we’ve heard they’ll offer BlackBerry, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and even Google’s Nexus One will work on their network. Regarding price plans, they’ll have unlimited plans but no word on what those plans include or what they’ll be priced at. The “Mobilicity” tag line is “My Phone, My City, My Way” and they will bank on customers who’ll most likely stay within their city “zones”. Once you exit out of the zones you’ll jump onto Rogers as they have a roaming agreement with them. One new addition that we found is a live link on their site dedicated to plans… but it only states “This is the temporary plans page. More content will be coming soon”. Possibly a sign of things to come.
From looking at their job board it shows active hiring in all locations. In addition, back in March the CRTC started it’s ownership review of Dave Wireless, so we know there is progress. I also understand that building a network from scratch is a huge task to take on and I’m sure they want to get a flawless network launch out of the gate.
Remember the press release they sent out boldly announcing that “Competition is Coming”? Well, we also want more competition in Canada and if we’re “going to love Mobilicity” all we’re saying is give us something to love. Don’t leave us wondering. Start a conversation with your potential customers.
What are your thoughts?
I doubt anyone cares enough to wait for them to launch. Those who want phones will go with the big 3, and those who want slightly better (local) value will go with WIND. Honestly, I don’t think there is much room for all these new entrants – especially with the fail that Public Mobile has proven to be…

Promises, promises. If you walk a mile in their shoes you will find yourself on a different network

Wind a better value ???
They don’t rush to launch a Beta-network !
Wind is a joke !
The Big 3 were more responsive to Public mobile then to Wind.
I can’t stand Wind fan-boys or lying Wind employee’s.

I think Mobilicity is what people are banking on now since what was expected with WIND was a better handset selection. DAVE Wireless showed off some crazy handsets a couple years ago at CES and I was really impressed, never knew they were going to be a Canadian provider in the mobile space.
All I want is a stable network and I’m hoping that the time they’ve taken to reserve themselves instead of jumping the gun will pay off…for us and them.

I’m looking forward to their launch, mainly because their going to (hopefully) work out the issues WIND is STILL having with their network, prior to launch. Even if it is just “local” I might give them a shot. I’ve been with WIND since day one, and service is great, data service is horrible. I don’t know if this is just my experience, but I’m constantly dropping my data signal (BlackBerry 9700, BB icon next to signal strength keeps disappearing, and when it happens I have no data access). Anyways, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Mobilicity. I’ll probably end up returning my 9700 to WIND because I just got a new one not even a month ago and still having the same issues. Bring it on Mobilicity, I’m sure tones are waiting… As for those “haters” of the new entrants.. It’s not the easiest task to launch a country wide network. Take it easy.

I think everyone is missing here that in order for one company to buy another, at least one of them must have money =D
5Gs, stop the fanboy spam! The reality is TELUS has the best service and Rogers has the best coverage nationwide. Bottom line.

I figure they haven’t got the same funding as what someone like a WIND has so they don’t have the marketing budget to be doing as much marketing. Surprised though that they aren’t leveraging the website or social media tools well at all either.
Maybe they are changing out their marketing team after the mega-fail brand launch of “Mobilicity”? I’d choose a new name before coming to market if I was them.
Even so whatever they do I doubt the Big three will allow them much success before they buy them out.

Really? Rogers has the best coverage nationwide?
I can drive from Edmonton to Calgary and back, and be covered by HSPA+ the entire drive on Telus/Bell.
On Rogers, I can’t even get HSPA+ at my house half the time.
And if you actually bothered to compare maps, Rogers covers about 2/3 the area Telus/Bell in Canada.

WIND and Mobilicity should have a tower sharing agreement to expand their networks faster. And I don’t mean a tower sharing agreement like WIND has with Rogers and their garbage 25cents a minute rates. Then again it is cheaper then what Rogers charges their own customers lol.

Thomas, HSPA+ isn’t everything. Go to Saskatchewan/Manitoba outside of Winnipeg and on TELUS I get 0. Nothing.
Rogers at least has EDGE, which sure is sufficient for me outside of major city centers. At least I can get data in most places, regardless of 2G/3G.
If you bothered to compare maps, you would see me (a Winnipegger) can’t get data outside of our city’s perimeter. Driving to Toronto? No data throughout Manitoba and almost all the way to Toronto. Driving to Edmonton? Nope, not till the Alberta border. Can’t even get data at my cabin an hour out of Winnipeg. However, Rogers covers the prairies quite well with at least EDGE.
Telus at the moment in the prairies is a HUGE fail. I don’t care if I get HSPA+ in Brandon… I just want data of some type for emails etc. Telus can’t offer me or the 800K other people near me that.

I’ve been waiting for you to come out for some time now. I hope your network is better than Wind’s and the phones too.
Otherwise, I might have to stick with Virgin Mobile

out of all the new entratants.. mobilcities CEO has talked the most “smack” and lets see what he launches… most new customers not only go after better plans but also after better phones.. and thats where wind failed.. they had good plans but poor handsets.. and customers dont wanna keep purchasing phones they just want 1 good phone.. and if mobilcity doesnt have a good selection in their stores.. then ppl will most likely ignore them like we are ignoring public now.. are they launched or not? im getting mixed answers?

I think what you are all missing is the fact that NO ONE knows what this company is going to offer. Who are any of you to pass judgment. Fact of the matter is this….ITS SOMETHING NEW! Stop bitching and complaining and making assumptions.

So, any real mobilicty customer out there who would like to share their experience about price, service, coverage?
no doubt everything is listed on their website and you can read it every day in Metro, personal experience is always trusted.
on the other hand, hats off to them at least mobilicty started something that can benefit customer and give freedom from 3 giants. I don’t have big hopes, as they are new but I do hope their services gets better as time pass.

I bought a phone and got a plan under false pretenses that I was to be provided service in a covered area. I am right in the middle of their supposed coverage area and I have to re connect to the network every 2 – 3 minutes. I brought my phone back for a replacement and the lady was outside trying to connect to the mobilicity network. This company is NOT ready to provide the service, they should NOT be selling phones to anyone!

Hi, I have just switched to Mobilicity and honestly it depends where and how you use your phone. If you are in the downtown core, it works perfect. I work downtown, but I live in Vaughan. The problem is, there are pockets where the network is not strong in Vaughan, and sometimes I get charged roaming fees from my wallet. I plan on being patient and seeing if this improves, as I love the concept of mobilicity. I am tired of signing 3 year contracts and being charged too much money every month.

I switched my Rogers phones three weeks ago. 3 hours later I noticed that I did not receive a signal in my house. I returned to the rogers store at Hazeldean Mall Kanata where I had to re-purchase two sim cards at Rogers in order to be reactivated. I then went to Mobilicity (in the same mall). Mobilicity refunded my money for the two phones and could not return my $90 for the first month service on both phones. The manager said I would get a check sent in the mail in 3-5 days. I returned to the store several times during the week to see if they would reimburse me for the $22 I spent on replacing the sim cards. The manager stated ” I am waiting for my boss to get back to me on that”. The 5th day after I returned the phones I returned to get an answer as to why I did not receive my $90 and also the $22 for the sim cards. The manager stated ” sorry, we are not giving you the $22 because your not a customer of ours, and your check is in the mail. I then said that I will inform all customers that your service is poor and product is awful. I stood outside the store and waited. The manager called security and they in turn security called police. Oh, I live across the street where I bought this product with no signal. and wasted 4 hours of my time fooling around with there poor quality product.
