Apple files patent called “enforcement routine”… demands user to click on ads before using device

telusiphone

Apple has filed another patent that is getting a great deal of people talking. This one is called “enforcement routine” and the premise behind this is that in order for you to use your device, computer, iPod etc you will need to watch or click on the advertisement. Sounds a bit controlling and reads:

“Its distinctive feature is a design that doesn’t simply invite a user to pay attention to an ad — it also compels attention. The technology can freeze the device until the user clicks a button or answers a test question to demonstrate that he or she has dutifully noticed the commercial message. Because this technology would be embedded in the innermost core of the device, the ads could appear on the screen at any time, no matter what one is doing.

The system also has a version for music players, inserting commercials that come with an audible prompt to press a particular button to verify the listener’s attentiveness.”

    2. This is so intrusive and seems wrong. They instead should have the ads placed within apps, not the phone. I’m not the type of guy who is greatly concerned with privacy or anything, but the need to ‘verify the listener’s attentiveness’ to ads I think crosses the line. I thought that Apple is about making things easier, simpler and more enjoyable. Putting ads into the phone that can pop up at anytime you’re using the phone doesn’t match that theory. Maybe it’s time people open their eyes to the way Apple runs their dictatorship business and either boycott or fight back!

    6. Well I think that would be one way to kill Apple’s constant record-breaking profits… I would never buy a device if it had crap like that installed on it..

    8. Who in their right mind would buy a device, where you are forced to listen to advertisements? Sure as hell not me.

    12. …. they’re kidding, right? Unless they are quite literally handing out the devices (all their macbooks, iPhones, iPods, etc.) to each and every person walking past and forcing the cellular companies carrying the iPhone to seriously drop the rate plans for the device… this ~will~ seriously hurt Apple’s sales and profits from devices.

Now mind you, maybe they did this more as a way of preventing any other company from doing this… so that we don’t have to get subjected to this from a company so low and disrespectful to its clients that it would think to do such a thing… After all, from what I’ve seen, I’m not sure that many of Apple’s patents ever really see the light of day in its devices…. but then again, I could always be wrong…. very wrong…

    13. I think that this is absolute bullshit. If u r in a call, playing a game or working, i wouldn’t want to have to deal with advertisements. I can understand y they would do this, to make money from the advertisers, but it will severely hurt the iphone’s sales. I’m on telus, and i was so amped wen i heard that they were getting the iphone. I wanted to switch to one but now i won’t unless they get rid of this “enforcement routine” shit!

i read another article on this and i think it said that it was only in the US and that apple would give away the devices and software for people who don’t mind sitting through the ads but i’m not sure can anyone confirm?
