If you were hoping that 2024 would be the last you’ve heard of AI, I have bad news for you. An IBM study that interviewed over 2,400 IT decision-makers determined that 56 percent of respondents plan to increase spending on AI in 2025.
While this isn’t surprising since the AI hype train still hasn’t peaked, it will be interesting to see how Canadians feel at the end of the year after spending some real quality time with AI throughout 2025. On top of this, Google recently announced that it is going to bake AI into all of its business workspace plans, which will put AI tools into even more people’s hands, while Microsoft is upping the price of its consumer Microsoft 365 subscriptions, which are now infused with AI.
The same study mentions that 83 percent of people are still working on their AI strategies from 2024 and only 42 percent of businesses are already seeing positive ROI from their AI investments.
I’d expect that AI will continue to be a buzzword for the next few years at least since it’s still something most people don’t understand, and when it’s misunderstood, it’s perfect to be a business buzzword.
