Well, that didn’t take long. Just a day after I wrote about Telus-owned Public Mobile’s lackluster Black Friday offers, it rolled out three new Canada/U.S./Mexico plans matching deals from Freedom Mobile.
- $35/50GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico (previously $36/50GB 5G)
- $45/75GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico + 2,000 monthly long-distance minutes to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, and the U.K. (previously $45/65GB 5G)
- $55/100GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico + 2,000 monthly long-distance minutes to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, and the U.K. (previously $49/100GB 4G)
Public’s $30/20GB 4G Canada/U.S., $23/6GB 4G and $19/1GB 4G plans remain unchanged at the time of writing. It also removed the $49/100GB 4G Canada/U.S. plan it previously had in favour of the $55 version, which is a bit of a bummer.
These new plans put Public directly in line with offers from Freedom Mobile, which has notably had those plans for months before Black Friday deals started. (I’m still hoping to see something truly wild from Freedom on Black Friday proper, something that providers like Public will hopefully match). It’s worth pointing out that Freedom’s pricing relies on a $5/mo autopay credit and $5/mo credit for 18 months, technically making Public’s plans cheaper.
At the very least, Public is at least nearly matching last year’s $34/50GB 5G plan. I think a dollar extra for Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming is very worth it.
