ASUS previously stated that working on Google’s Nexus 7 was like “torture” because of the quick 4-month turnaround time. It was revealed that the idea for Google’s first tablet was first born at CES 2012. The Nexus 7 was officially announced at Google I/O in both an 8GB and 16GB versions. One of the many reasons Google was able to price the Nexus 7 for so low $209 and $259 (CDN) respectively, was that it only came as a Wi-Fi tablet, no 3G or 4G connectivity.
The latest rumour to surface is that a new 3G variant is upon us. According to a post on MoDaCo their “very well placed insider” says that Google and ASUS will be launching a 3G version of the Nexus 7 “in around 6 weeks.” The report also stated that there’ll be “no other hardware changes” to the tablet.
Six-weeks out takes us to the middle of October, which is when Apple is rumoured to launch their “iPad mini.” No other details of price, or exact launch countries.
