Nintendo eyeing OLED Switch 2 with Samsung display: report

Samsung also provided the screens for the original OLED Switch

An OLED version of the Nintendo Switch 2 could be on the way.

Citing three sources, ZDNet Korea reports that the Japanese gaming giant is exploring a Switch 2 model with an improved screen. Notably, this OLED display is expected to come from Samsung, which also provided the components for the original OLED Switch.

However, ZDNet Korea notes that Nintendo hasn’t yet committed to an OLED Switch 2. Should Nintendo move forward with an OLED, though, the publication speculates that manufacturing could begin at the end of this year ahead of mass production in 2027. All of that is to say, it’s unclear if and when an OLED Switch 2 might debut or how much it could potentially cost.

Presumably, Nintendo is taking its time figuring this all out because of the global hardware crisis that’s led to chips being both expensive and in short supply. It’s also still early to introduce an alternative Switch 2 model, given that the system only just debuted in June 2025. For context, the original Switch launched in March 2017, with the OLED model dropping in October 2021.

So far, the only official Switch 2 revision from Nintendo is one with a replaceable battery for European markets in compliance with regional regulations. Otherwise, it’s still focused on the base Switch 2 model it launched last year, the price of which is set to increase in September.
