Google Now updated for Jelly Bean devices with movie recommendations and public alerts

Google Now is baked into the company’s Search app for Android, but is only available on devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. For those fewer than 1%, either running a Nexus device or CyanogenMOD 10, Google Search has been updated with a few neat additions.

The ability to search for movie showtimes directly from within the app is now available, bringing a core feature from Google’s web search presence to mobile. They’ve also added public alerts — emergency broadcasts like storm or earthquake warnings — which could be incredibly valuable going forward.

Sports coverage is now enabled, so you can enter your favourite sports team in the Settings and follow their every move.

If you’re running Jelly Bean, head over to Google Play for an update to Google Search.
