Samsung Galaxy S9 reportedly internally codenamed Project Star

Samsung Galaxy S8 in the hand

We’re not yet out of 2017 but that’s not stopping the rumour mill from working overtime to get out details about Samsung 2018 flagship lineup.

Earlier today, superstar leaker Evan Blass tweeted out a couple of interesting details about the Galaxy S9.

Based on Blass’ brief tweet, it appears Samsung is working on at least two Galaxy S9 models, with the two devices codenamed Star 1 and Star 2.

The more interesting detail here is that Blass says “definitely a ‘tock’ year” when talking about the two phones, implying that Samsung will likely play it safe this year.

At an event today in China, Samsung also revealed a rebranding of its TouchWiz Android skin to ‘Samsung Galaxy AI UX.’ Not much was shared regarding what is set to be different in this rebranded Android layer, though it’s likely Samsung’s ill-received voice-activated assistant Bixby will be more heavily integrated into the UI.

Over the last few years Samsung has shifted TouchWiz’s name to Grace UX, and from this moniker, to Samsung Experience, depending on what device the skin is running on.

We’ll likely learn a lot more about the Galaxy S9 in the weeks and months to come before the phone’s Q1 reveal.
